When you are out on the roadway, you know that there are risks and that you do what you can to drive safely. However, you cannot control the actions of other drivers and sometimes their negligence can cause you harm. In April, we learned that a 27-year-old woman has been arrested after allegedly driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a man driving with his family.
If you need a car accident attorney, you can count on the Law Offices of Howard Kornberg to be by your side. We will work tirelessly to secure the compensation you deserve in the aftermath of a crash.
This Is A Tragic Incident
It is hard not to be upset when we look at the photo of Richard Dwayne Cuthbert and his daughter in this news story. It is hard to look at because we know that Cuthbert was killed in a car crash that was allegedly caused by 27-year-old Kourtni Vinson.
Police investigated this crash for three months before making a charging decision. The crash happened in January when Cuthbert, 40, was driving home with his wife and one of his three kids when police say Vinson ran a red light and crashed into their vehicle.
Cuthbert’s wife and daughter both had broken bones from the incident.
Vinson, according to police reports, was speeding in her Dodge Caliber when she “wrongfully entered the intersection” and slammed into Cuthbert’s vehicle.
We Know This Is A Problem
Despite law enforcement’s best efforts, drunk driving remains a major problem in the state. For the latest reporting year in California, there were more than 278,000 vehicle crash injuries and over 3,000 fatalities.
- Drivers impaired by alcohol were responsible for 29% of all traffic-related death that year.
It is not uncommon for us to see the following injuries as a result of alcohol-related vehicle crashes:
- Spinal cord injuries (with possible paralysis)
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Internal organ damage/internal bleeding
- Broken or dislocated bones
- Severe lacerations or amputations
Those who survive these crashes but are seriously injured, they face tremendous recovery times that often involve long periods of rehabilitation. If they are unable to work, they could lose valuable income needed to support themselves and their families. On top of the medical bills they have, this can lead families into financial ruin.
