Wrong-way driving and making a sudden left turn are one of the leading causes of car accidents that kill hundreds of other drivers and pedestrians on the streets of Los Angeles every year.
Making a sudden left turn in front of oncoming traffic can be extremely deadly, as it often leads to head-on vehicle collisions, which are the deadliest type of car accidents in the U.S.
Fact: while statistics show that only 2% of all car accidents in the U.S. are head-on collisions, they account for more than 10% of traffic fatalities.
Our Los Angeles car collisions attorney here at the Law Offices of Howard Kornberg have noticed an eerie trend in the occurrence of wrong-way driving and head-on collisions in Los Angeles: a significant number of them occur in the early morning hours and mainly at around 2 am, when most bars typically close in LA.
A woman makes a deadly left turn in Los Angeles
One such car accident recently took place on Highway 46 just east of Paso Robles when a Los Angeles woman driving a 2011 Honda Fit made a sudden left turn in front of an incoming GMC utility truck. The car crash occurred last Friday night.
The left turn became deadly for the woman, who didn’t survive the collision and died of her injuries at the scene. The driver of the pickup, a 44-year-old male, suffered back pain.
While the car accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, it’s been reported that the woman stopped in the left-turn lane to pull onto Geneseo Road; but when she turned her car, the oncoming pickup smashed into the passenger side of the Honda Fit.
It’s unclear if the woman followed traffic rules when making the turn, or if the pickup driver saw the car when driving eastbound and wasn’t distracted. It’s also unclear if either of the drivers was driving under the influence at the time of the accident.
What to do if your loved one died in a car accident?
If the pickup driver was responsible for the deadly collision, the family of the deceased Los Angeles woman may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim to obtain compensation for the damages as well as burial and funeral expenses.

Two people die in a wrong-way car accident in LA
In another wrong-way car collision in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, two people were reported dead. The wrong-way driving incident was reported at around 1 am in Chatsworth.
The wrong-way driver rammed into another vehicle, which caused a subsequent traffic collision involving a third car. As a result of the wrong-way, multiple-vehicle car crash, two people were reported dead at the scene and one person was left in critical condition.
Car crash cases involving multiple deaths and wrong-way driving are difficult to litigate because the chain of events leading up to the collision can be established only with the help of witness accounts or camera footage from nearby buildings/cars.
