In a bizarre accident last week, a plane smashed into the westbound side of the 101 freeway in Agoura Hills. Looking at the photos of the incident, we are surprised that nobody was injured, neither the passenger nor anyone on the roadway.
“I picked a spot on the freeway where I knew there was a big section of cars that weren’t there, but the engine failed completely,” said the pilot. “Fortunately, I was able to not hurt anybody – other than the airplane.”
Both directions of the freeway were closed for a while, but otherwise, the damage was minimal.

Real Possibilities
We know that you are unlikely to face an accident with a plane while you are driving, but there are other reasons for you to be concerned. While we know you take measures to be safe when you are on the roadway, you cannot control the actions of other drivers.
During California’s latest reporting year, we saw more than 82,437 people injured or killed in traffic accidents in Los Angeles County alone.
Over 25 percent of the state’s traffic-related fatalities are the result of alcohol-impaired drivers. Drunk drivers and those who continue to serve them after they are visibly impaired should be held accountable for their actions.
The state also saw 1,056 speeding-related fatalities. Speeding and aggressive driving are reckless and cause major injuries. Just as dangerous as distracted driving, a problem we are seeing more and more of as technology continues to become a larger part of our everyday lives.
The Injuries
Vehicle accidents come with significant costs, both when it comes to property damage and personal injuries. Even when insurance companies do offer a settlement, it is often not enough to cover the total cost of medical bills, lost income if an injury prevents a person from working, and property damage.
