We have learned of a tragic incident that has taken the life of a Ventura County sheriff’s search-and-rescue team member. The incident happened on February 2 during a rain-soaked morning on the 5 Freeway in northern Los Angeles County.
The victim, Jeff Dye, was with a group on their way to a training exercise when they saw a crash on the freeway. They stopped to help and were assisting a group of people when a vehicle plowed into them. Along with Dye, nine others were injured in the incident.
“They stopped to help people because that’s what they do,” said another member of the search-and-rescue team.
At the Law Offices of Howard Kornberg, this incident highlights just how unpredictable the roadways in and around this area can be on a daily basis. If you need an auto crash lawyer in Los Angeles, you can count on us to secure the compensation you need for all of your accident-related expenses.
The State Statistics
If you have been around LA for any length of time, or even for just 10 minutes, then you know that the traffic can be a nightmare. We also see our fair share of vehicle accidents. While many of those only result in property damage, plenty cause injuries and fatalities. For the latest reporting year in LA, there were:
- 44,207 people were injured or killed in vehicle accidents.
How does the rest of the state look? Well, for the same year, there were 3,435 people killed and 254,561 people injured in vehicle accidents throughout the state.
Getting into a vehicle accident with injuries is scary. We often have clients who suffer from major injuries like spinal cord trauma, traumatic brain injuries, major bone breaks, internal organ damage, and more. These injuries often require a person to undergo extensive rehabilitation after their emergency care and this can lead to massive medical bills.
Do you know if insurance will cover all of these expenses?
Driver Negligence
We know that these accidents are often caused by another driver’s negligence. We commonly handle cases of victims who are injured as a result of:
- Those who speed or operate their vehicle aggressively
- Drivers impaired by drugs or alcohol
- Distracted drivers
Negligence drivers should always be held accountable for their actions, especially when they cause others harm.
