Today we are bringing you a tragic story from right here in Santa Ana. Last month, two people lost their lives in a vehicle versus a motorcycle crash on Raitt Street.
The incident happened at around 1:30 p.m. on January 2 when a driver in a vehicle made an illegal U-turn and slammed into a motorcycle. Witnesses rushed into the accident that was quickly consumed in flames to try to save the lives of the motorcyclist and the car driver. One of the witnesses was the son of one of the victims.
The motorcyclist died at the scene and the driver was pronounced dead at the hospital a while later.
“I just saw flames go up,” said one of the witnesses.
“It was like a movie scene like it’s not real,” said another.
At the Law Offices of Howard Kornberg, we know that motorcyclists face more danger than most other people on the roadway and can be severely injured due to driver negligence. If you need a motorcycle accident lawyer Los Angeles, call us today.
The Reality
There are nearly 900,000 registered motorcycles in California. This is a popular place to ride, with wonderful weather and great scenery. However, motorcyclists face more danger on the roadway than passengers in regular vehicles do.
For the latest reporting year, we saw 548 people killed and 14,418 injured in motorcycle accidents across the state. Closer to home, Santa Ana saw 132 motorcyclists injured or killed during the same time period. This is an issue that affects us here locally, as is evidenced by the story above.
Simply put, motorcyclists are going to get hurt in accidents. They do not have much protection from the impact of a vehicle that weighs thousands of pounds. We commonly see the following injuries in motorcycle accident victims:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Internal organ damage
- Major lacerations or amputations
- Broken or dislocated bones
The medical costs, as well as other hidden costs related to accidents, can become tremendous. Do you know what to do if insurance companies do not cover the expenses?
Soon after an accident happens, the insurance companies will begin calling you. Please know that they will be recording your responses and can use what you say against you when it comes to making a settlement. They will do what they can to show you were not really harmed as bad as you say. They may even try to say you caused the accident.
