The Most Dangerous Household Products That Can Leave You Injured (And Entitle You to Product Liability Compensation)

On behalf of The Law Offices of Howard Kornberg Posted in Product liability

Stubbed toes and paper cuts are not the only injuries that can be caused by everyday household products in your home. Here is the scary part: unsafe household products seem to be everywhere if you look at this list of the most dangerous household products in the U.S.

Most of us tend to believe that home injuries occur in the kitchen: that is where knives and many power tools are at (not to mention the oven and kettle, which can cause burns quite often). But in reality, dangerous household products are all around your house.

Today, we brought our Riverside product liability attorney Howard Craig Kornberg to provide a list of 20 household products that might injure or even kill you. Needless to say, if your defective product lawyer can prove that a particular product was defective, unsafe, had a design defect, or the manufacturer failed to provide adequate warnings, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and damages.

  1. Porches and balconies (mostly collapse-related accidents) injure more than 120,000 Americans and cause over 50 fatalities every year.
  2. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) injure more than 121,000 and kill over 180 per year.
  3. Garden tools (excluding lawnmowers) injure more than 123,000 and kill over 80 annually.
  4. Ladders and step stools account for more than 131,000 home injuries and result in the deaths of over 40 Americans every year.
  5. Chemicals (including but not limited to cleaning products, fertilizers, paint, etc.) injure more than 152,000 Americans and kill over 70 each year.
  6. Pools and hot tubs (mostly from drowning, hypothermia, and slip and falls) injure more than 157,000 and kill over 500 annually.
  7. Plastic containers (including plastic bags, wrapping products, plastic bottles, etc.) injure more than 170,000 and kill over 50 every year.
  8. Power tools injure more than 197,000 and kill over 30 each year.
  9. Showers and bathtubs (mostly slip and fall accidents) injure more than 229,000 and kill over 170 U.S. citizens annually.
  10. Playground equipment (mostly injuries and fatalities among children under the age of 15) injure more than 234,000 and kill about 14 every year.
  11. Non-power tools account for more than 245,000 injuries and about 34 fatalities each year.
  12. Doors (including the so-painful door-finger jams) injure more than 278,000 and kill about 10 annually.
  13. Walls and ceilings (mostly collapses and head injuries by slamming against the wall or ceiling) injure more than 320,000 and cause deaths of over 80 individuals in the U.S. every year.
  14. Beds (mostly bunk beds) injure more than 407,000 and kill over 270 each year.
  15. Chairs and couches (such as sofas, recliners, rocking chairs, folding chairs, bar stools, and others) leave more than 416,000 Americans injured and kill over 190 annually.
  16. Knives (mostly when chopping food) injure more than 427,000 and kill over 20 every year.
  17. Furniture (excluding beds, chairs, and couches) accounts for more than 579,000 injuries and over 110 fatalities each year.
  18. Bicycles, tricycles, and unicycles injure more than 610,000 Americans and kill over 360 annually.
  19. Carpets, rugs, and other floorings (mostly slip and fall accidents and tripping hazards) injure more than 940,000 and kill over 970 every year.
  20. Stairs (mostly falls) injure more than 1.3 million Americans and kill over 330 each year.

But do not jump to any conclusions or crawl under your bed (though beds are dangerous, too…), put a blanket over your head (thankfully, blankets are not on the list!), and never come out. Our Riverside product liability attorney from the Law Offices of Howard Kornberg explains that if you have been injured due to negligence, recklessness, or failure to warn on the part of the manufacturer or any other party in the chain of distribution, you may be able to recover compensation for your injuries.
